The 2025 US Open Championship is set to start today. I am here to get you some of my predictions for the 125th Championship at Oakmont CC.
About the Golf Course
The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club marks the tournament’s return to one of golf’s most formidable venues for a record 10th time. Oakmont, located northeast of Pittsburgh, is renowned for its punishing design, characterized by deep bunkers, lightning-fast greens, and narrow fairways lined with trees. The course demands precision and mental fortitude, making it a true test of skill and endurance. Recent enhancements have added approximately 250 yards to the layout, extending the course to over 7,400 yards. Significant changes include lengthening holes 3, 5, and 11 and repositioning fairway bunkers to challenge modern power hitters.
Our Top Horses
For our top picks, we kind of went with the more obvious route. However, we did throw in a mini sleeper pick.
Scottie Scheffler OWGR Ranking 1st
Reasoning: I really don’t think this needs much of an explanation. Fresh off winning the Memorial by 4 shots and winning his last 3 of 4 golf tournaments, I believe Scottie should be the clear favorite to win the US Open Championship Trophy.
Bryson DeChambeau OWGR Ranking 10th
Reasoning: It seems the US Open-style golf course fits DeChambeau’s game. A 2020 win at Winged Foot GC and his win at last year’s US Open at Pinehurst cements him as a US Open favorite now and for years to come. If the driver is working for Bryson this week, I cannot see anyone stopping him.
Reasoning: While Ludvig’s current form isn’t the greatest, I believe he has the due factor playing for him. Missing the cut at Quail Hollow, I don’t believe, will affect his confidence the slightest. He may not win, but I think Ludvig should have a solid tournament this week.
Random Other Predictions
Here is a list of other things that I wish to happen this week:
Zac Blair to make the cut
Jordan Spieth top 5 (in the mix on Sunday until the back 9)
Brooks Koepka top 5
Denny McCarthy top 20
Final Thoughts
All golf media outlets predict the winning score to be around par or worse. However, I really don’t see that to be the case. Those tour guys are so good I expect the leader to finish at 6 to 8 under and the top 5 to all be under par.
