Old Kinderhook

About The Course

Old Kinderhook is an 18-hole golf course. Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Lake of the Ozarks, Old Kinderhook Golf Course stands as one of America’s most spectacular golfing destinations. Designed by the legendary Tom Weiskopf, this 6,726-yard par 71 course offers an unforgettable golfing experience that seamlessly blends challenge and camaraderie. With meticulously manicured zoysia tees and fairways and generously sized bentgrass greens, it’s a course that caters to both precision and power in your game.”

Initial Thoughts

Driving up to Old Kinderhook, you could sense a well-conditioned resort-style golf course. The golf course is surrounded by lodges and a hotel to accommodate golfers looking to utilize their stay-and-play options. Check-in was easy and quick, the starter was very friendly, and range balls were included in the green/cart fee, which was nice.

Layout

As it stands, this is my favorite layout of the journey. Every hole felt like a new challenge, but fair. There were only a few “blind tee shots,” which I have been told is rare for the courses down in the Ozarks. The course was mixed with various-length par 4s, the par 3s were generally straightforward, and the par 5s were fairly gettable. The challenge of Old Kinderhook stood around the greens: bunkers and runoff areas surrounding greens with accommodating, slopey greens. Driving wasn’t the priority with wide fairways generally on every hole.

Greens

The greens were nice. They were not incredibly fast but still had a comfortable pace. Nothing to complain about, very nice surfaces.

Fairways

The fairways stood as advertised: “meticulously manicured zoysia tees and fairways.” Old Kinderhook had the best fairways of the journey so far, and they were wide, which made them easy to hit. Overall this made the course more enjoyable, being able to hit from well-manicured fairways the majority of the time.

Bunkers

No complaints about the bunkers. Bunkers were well maintained with a little bit of fluff to them, which I enjoy.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse wasn’t anything special. A smaller building that still had anything you would need for your golf round. There was also a kitchen/bar area that made grabbing drinks/food easy on your way out to the course.

Value

I thought the value for Old Kinderhook was in a good spot. I paid $98 for my green/cart fee; this includes range balls. From the course conditions, I believe this was great value for the course you get to play.

Pace

I have been told by a couple of people that my round would take 5 to 6 hours. However, that was not the case for my group. I believe we played in a little over 4 hours, and I don’t remember waiting on any holes. Granted, I was on a group trip, and we played on a Monday morning, so that played a huge role in the pace.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed everything about this course. The price didn’t feel outrageously expensive, and the course lived up to the price, course condition-wise. I would gladly go back to Old Kinderhook and pay $98 for a round.
